Livox’s First Automotive-grade LiDAR, Livox HAP Available for Online Order at $1,599

The Xpeng P5 equipped with Livox HAP

As the first LiDAR-equipped vehicle launched to the consumer market in China, the Xpeng P5 with Livox HAP has attracted countless smart technology enthusiasts and consumers since its inception. In Xpeng’s newly updated OTA version (Xmart OS 3.2.0), HAP has proven its industry-leading advantage in functions such as obstacle avoidance, target perception, behavior prediction, and mapping and localization, taking the smart-driving experience of Xpeng’s Xpilot driving system to a whole new level.

Livox Technology has always been committed to developing high-performance 3D LiDARs for mass production. Ever since adopting LiDAR technology, Xpeng P5 has been able to provide a brand-new driving experience to its users, thanks to the HAP embedded in the vehicle. While devoting itself to innovation in smart driving, Livox continues to fulfill its mission of promoting the widespread adoption of LiDAR in other industries and helping technology developers achieve 3D sensing solutions with greater efficiency and lower cost, to spur constant industry growth in the area of spatial intelligence.

More than two years after the release of the first-generation Livox Horizon, today Livox officially launches the second-generation Livox HAP to global developers at the price of $1,599. Customers can inquire about and purchase the product through the official Livox website.

With the ultra-powerful 3D sensing ability of Livox HAP, the Xpeng P5 just finish its latest CNGP test, which achieves a whole-process zero-takeover smart driving experience in the downtown area with complex road conditions such as multiple traffic lights, main and auxiliary lane switching, multiple tunnels and roundabouts. It represents that Xpeng P5 became the first intelligent vehicle in China equipped with mass production built-in LiDARs, and pioneering a whole new smart-driving mode for consumers. Let us walk you through some key highlights of Livox HAP that provides Xpilot with more comprehensive and powerful perception capabilities.

Improved Stability and Comfort with Xpeng ACC/LCC-L

In most vehicles today, the adaptive cruise control (ACC) and lane centering control (LCC) functions only work in highway scenarios, and are automatically disabled during traffic congestions or when traveling in poor road conditions. The latest released Xmart OS 3.2.0 leverages the superior performance of the HAP LiDAR in allocation, mapping and range detection, boosting the perception ability of this vehicle. Compared with the conventional ACC/LCC, the new iteration delivers an improved driving experience in scenarios such as large-radius turning (e.g., at roundabouts), overtaking, and intersections with confusing lanes, further enhancing safety and comfort of P5.

02.

More Accurate High-speed NGP Enhanced Version

The application of Livox HAP powers up the comprehensive perception capability of Xpeng P5, which can not only perceive and avoid construction scenarios more accurately, but also optimize its perception and prediction of carts. These significant improvements are able to provide Xpeng owners with a more comfortable and safer driving experience.

03.

Longer Range and Multi-floor Parking Capabilities with VPA-L

In the upgraded version of Xpeng’s Valet Parking Assist (VPA-L), HAP delivers greater precision in object positioning and distance measurement than traditional sensors, providing more accurate input to tackle steep ramps, sharp bends, large blind spots, or other potential scenarios at multi-level parking sites.

In addition, HAP solves the problems of traditional sensors in data collection, such as incomplete distance information and poor accuracy. It also eliminates the need to fix measurement deviations during simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), achieving a two-kilometer range for the VPA-L function.

Lastly, traditional sensors are unable to effectively detect moving pedestrians and small static objects. Livox HAP addresses this issue in the intelligent-driving system with automatic avoidance of small objects, such as traffic cones, as well as moving pedestrians, vehicles, etc.

04.

A High Performer Designed for Mass Production

The breakthroughs above are possible due to the combination of Xpeng’s self-developed, full-stack advanced algorithm architecture and the superior performance of HAP.

In addition, HAP was developed in compliance with high industry standards, from its early design to the automated production phase, to meet the stringent demands of automotive-grade application in terms of product reliability, consistency, and manufacturing efficiency.

From its performance and quality, to delivery in pilot mass production projects, HAP has made remarkable leaps from the first-generation Horizon. The multiple upgrades seen in the NGP.  ACC/LCC-L and VPA-L features of Xpeng P5 further reflect the groundbreaking improvements brought by HAP to users’ parking and driving experience on complex and challenging road conditions.

As an EV manufacturer with its self-developed, full-stack smart-driving technology, Xpeng is poised to deliver more intelligent driving experiences for urban and high-speed scenarios in the near future. In the meantime, Livox will continue to develop and share more cost-effective and reliable LiDAR offerings with spatial intelligence solution developers worldwide.
